Marquette Kansas's Free Land Program
Gains Attention Nationwide
The City of Marquette is a progressive city with it's free land
program which has gained national publicity.  From it's historic main
street with authentic turn of the century stores and buildings, to delightful
neighbrohoods with beautifully restored and maintained period homes, it
has stood still in this idyllic prairie town.

Our community welcomes our most recent business additions of
Butterfly
Photography Studio, ArtSpace Gallery, Gallery One Eleven, and Blue
Sky Cable Company and income based housing Riverview Villas.  The
community proudly supports it's community gardens in the Westridge
Addition for those who do not have space for a garden on their
residential property, and we continue to work on our recreational hike
and bike trail.

For the cultural enthsuiast, we offer five museums and three art
galleries. The
Kansas Motorcycle Museum exhibits over 100 classic
motorcyles and memorabilia in tribute to motorcyle racing legend, the
late Stan "The Man" Engdahl. Our former movie theatre has been
renovated into a fine arts center that hosts the annual melodrama and
olio performed annually the first weekend in November.  Dance and
other musical recitals are also performed throughout the year.

For recreation and family entertainment we offer a swimming pool in a
nice public park location, bridge across the Smoky Hill River with
pedestrian walkways, low water dam on the Smoky HIll River that
provides good fishing, and very close in vicinity (11 miles) is Kanapolis
Lake offering boating, camping, swimming, fishing, hunting, hiking and
horseback riding.  You can enjoy a cold drink or ice cream from the City
Sundries which contains the original marble soda fountain or work out in
our modern fitness center located in the basement of the City Museum.

For the historic and architectural enthusiast we offer our state
registered historic Washington Street District.  A number of the
downtown buildings still retain their decorated, sculpted metal motifs.  As
well, the Hanson-Lindfors house is on the National Register of Historic
Homes.  The Hanson Partnership has donated 20 acres to the city for
future development.

Lodging is available above ArtSpace Gallery and RV sites are available
behind the Gas Pump Antique Store and Museum.

The City of Marquette welcomes you anytime.
